Easter Circle Dance “Luka”
About event
A local Easter circle-dance ritual from the agro-town of Markovo in Molodechno District. Ethnographic and cultural sources describe “Luka” as a tradition performed on the first day of Easter: participants dance in a circle with children placed at its centre, symbolising the continuation of life and fertility. The practice was revived by local tradition bearers and cultural workers. Residents of Markovo, district cultural institutions and the Markauchanka folk ensemble help preserve it.
