In mid-August, the night sky is illuminated by the brightest and most spectacular meteor shower of the year — the Perseids. Astronomy enthusiasts travel far from city light pollution to nature reserves and national parks. Wrapped in blankets, participants watch hundreds of 'shooting stars' throughout the night, listen to lectures by astronomers, and make wishes under the vast August sky.
